Saint Joseph, Pillar of Families

I didn't use to pray novenas.  I always thought that praying directly to God was better.  But I read this passage from the Bible: "The continual prayer of a just man availeth much." - James 5:16 I thought of the matter more and now I see that novenas are a humble way of praying.  It is asking those closest to Jesus (and holiest) people who walked the earth, to pray for me. This is not a new way of doing things as Moses intervened for the Jews when God wanted to punish them for making a bull with their own hands and started worshipping them. I now think God is pleased whenever I pray a novena.    Since then, I have seen so many SIGNS AND WONDERS in myself and in my circumstances because I prayed a novena.   I credit Saint Joseph for my happy home life and also for helping us with our finances though the best thing for me is the way novenas help us to lead holy lives.  The saints want no applause but rather, they will always draw us closer to God.   Instead of idolizing cel

Blessed are Your Eyes

“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! - Matthew 6:22-23

Yesterday, our community group had a pilgrimage to three churches around the city.  The first meditation was on Matthew 6:19-30.  It was all about trusting in God for all our needs and not to worry.

Verse 22 starts with The lamp of the body is the eye.

This verse struck me like never before.  I am a visual learner.  I learn better when there are pictures and images I can associate the lesson with.  That's why I was a frequent doodler in my elementary up to college days.

This verse reminds us to protect what our eyes see for this is what will reflect to my soul.  We must see only what will illuminate our souls, rather than things that will darken it.

There are many things though that we cannot see.  These are sometimes even more important than the things that we see.  That's why we need to look at things with the eyes of faith.

When picking a car, we carefully choose it's color, design and obvious features but the more essential thing is to check the engine and more basically, if it has gas to run!  What's inside is more important than what is inside.

The cosmetics business is a billion dollar industry.  People want to look good.  The body won't function without the heart, the brain, and lungs and all of these are hidden from view.  Our intellect, will and emotions are all unseen yet these drive our bodies and ultimately our future destiny.

Our souls are eternal and will last forever unlike our bodies.

Shouldn't we more focus our attention to beautifying and sanctifying our souls to prepare it for heaven?

"But blessed are your eyes, because they see..." Matthew 13:16
